MANAMA, Bahrain (UPI)—Iran said it hanged seven members of the outlawed Moujahedeen organization Monday for assisting an invading Iraqi-based rebel army last week.

The official Islamic Republic News Agency said the seven were hanged in Bakhtaran, about 300 miles southwest of Tehran, for having collaborated with the invaders. A crowd at the scene of the execution chanted, ‘Death to the hypocrites,’ IRNA said.

The Iraq-based National Liberation Army of Iran, the military wing of the Moujahedeen, last week crossed the border and for a time occupied several towns. Iranian forces said the advance was stopped outside Bakhtaran, a key provincial capital.
