Saturday, 16 February 2008

NCRI – France Libertés Foundation, headed by Mrs. Daniell Mitterand, the former French First Lady in a statement condemned the February 8 bombing of the water pumping station of Ashraf City home to members of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK) in northeast Iraq.

The French human rights organization described the bomb attack as an act of "war crime" against the people residing in Ashraf City who are recognized as protected persons under the Fourth Geneva Convention, and over 20,000 Iraqis living in the area.

"The France Libertés Fondation joins the National Council of Resistance of Iran to condemn these practices that endanger civil society and affect indiscriminately the life of the community, and calls upon the multinational force in Iraq, the International Committee of Red Cross, the United Nations and in particular the Iraqi government to investigate and prosecute the instigators of the attacks," the statement said.

The bomb attack took place at 3:30 a.m. local time on February 8. More than 300 kg of TNT was used in this bombing and as a result water pumps, installations of the station and offices were destroyed and supply of water to Ashraf City and surrounding areas were cut off.

The bombing of Ashraf City's water pumping station sparked a wave of strong condemnations by International and local political and human rights organizations.
