August 14, 2007

NCRI - The Iraqi Parliamentary Committee of Friendship and Solidarity with the People of Iran in a statement, condemned the remarks by Nouri al-Maliki, the Iraqi Prime Minister against the presence of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Ashraf City, Iraq and expressed its deep concerns regarding any alignment with the Iranian regime.

The statement by the group that has support of tens of Iraqi Parliamentarians reads: ”On Aug 6, in a surprising and strange remarks, Mr. Nouri al-Maliki, on the eve of his trip to Iran, called the presence of the PMOI in Iraq detrimental for Iran’s security and contradictory to Iraqi laws.”

“The Parliamentary Committee of Friendship and Solidarity with the People of Iran, firmly believes in this indisputable reality that the main part of present Iraqi crisis is the product of Iranian regime’s extensive meddling in Iraq and its efforts to impose its influence and domination over Iraq.

“It also expresses its deep concern with respect to any alignment with the Iranian regime and considers it against the interests of the Iraqi people.”

The statement added: “we also strongly stress that adoption of any hostile policy against the presence of the PMOI in Iraq, who are supported by human rights organizations and it is based on international laws and conventions, is undoubtedly a sign of domination of the Iranian regime over the Iraqi governmental institutions and will have dreadful consequences.”
