Bombing of Ashraf City water supply pumping station - Statement no. 2

Saturday, 09 February 2008
Mrs. Rajavi calls for condemnation of the clerical regime and prosecution of those who planned and perpetrated the bombing

The terrorist Qods Force bombed the pumping station supplying water to Ashraf City and 20,000 inhabitants of nearby areas

NCRI - Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, called on the UN Secretary General, the Security Council, High Commissioner for Human Rights, High Commissioner for Refugees, International Committee of the Red Cross as well as other human rights and competent international bodies to condemn the mullahs' inhuman regime for the criminal and cowardly bombing attack on the water pumping station of Ashraf City (home to members of People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) in Iraq) and surrounding rural areas. She also called for prosecution of those who planned and perpetrated the terrorist crime.

Mrs. Rajavi reiterated that water outage to residents of Ashraf City, protected persons under the Fourth Geneva Convention, and 20,000 deprived Iraqi local residents amounts to war crime. She added that the mullahs' regime engulf in domestic and international crises is attempting in vain to simultaneously increase executions and medieval punishments at home as well as planning terrorist attacks on its main opposition which are aimed at preventing the rapid downfall of the regime.

Yesterday, the terrorist agents of the Iranian regime's Qods Force bombed the water supply pumping station of Ashraf City (100 km to northeast of Baghdad), home to members of People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI).

The incident took place at 3:30 am local time. The pumping station also supplied water to areas 25 km to the west of Ashraf according to information received.

More than 300 kg of TNT was used in this bombing and as a result huge water pumps, installations of the station and offices were destroyed and supply of water to Ashraf and 20,000 Iraqis living in the area were cut off.

Mrs. Rajavi offered her condolences and expressed solidarity with Sheikh Hamid Ziab's family and the Iraqi people in particular the residents of Diayal Province and the PMOI members in Ashraf City. Sheikh Ziab was assassinated in a terrorist attack on Wednesday. He was in charge of the local security and protection of the pumping station.

She said that dominating Iraq is part of the ruling religious fascism's strategy and to that end, as it appeared on the statement of 5.2 million Iraqis in June 2006, the only way to establish peace and democracy in Iraq was to evict the mullahs' regime and its subordinates the IRGC and Qods Force from the country.

The mullahs' regime has recently dispatched a number of agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) and Qods Force to Iraq to conspire and prepare the grounds for terrorist attacks against the residents of Ashraf City. These agents were sent to Iraq from inside and outside Iran and are in constant contact with the mullahs' embassy in Baghdad. They have been staying in Baghdad's Al-Mansur Hotel. This is a clear indication of the regime's ongoing plots against Ashraf residents.
